Concert: Diego Villegas & Javier Ibáñez
Diego Villegas (harmonica) & Javier Ibáñez (flamenco guitar)
Style: fusion flamenco
The first-ever flamenco performance at an international harmonica festival! A concert where music takes centre stage and flamenco—rich, expressive and endlessly adaptable—serves as a bridge between different roots music traditions. It is a point of departure rather than a boundary, opening up a space for limitless exploration where diverse influences and musical sensibilities come together. The programme reveals an unexpected side of the harmonica, beautifully complemented by the expressive sound of the flamenco guitar. Two musicians shaped by many musical traditions, united by their love of artistic expression and their desire to share an authentic, vibrant and ever-evolving experience with the audience. A true gift for the ears, now brought to life at this festival. Diego Villegas has become one of the leading figures in contemporary flamenco. A saxophonist, flautist, harmonica player and clarinettist, as well as a composer and arranger, he brings exceptional creativity to every instrument he plays. His musical language naturally embraces the rich heritage of his native Andalusia, blending flamenco with jazz, singer-songwriter traditions, Cuban music and classical influences. Critics have described him as “one of the brightest talents of the new generation of flamenco-jazz musicians,” praising his “remarkable melodic imagination, beautifully lyrical phrasing,” and his “maturity, expressiveness and warmth.”
