Biography

Capable of taking the harmonica to remarkable new heights, Joan Pau Cumellas is one of Spain’s leading harmonica players. A passionate performer and dedicated student of the instrument, he continually expands its possibilities through a unique versatility across styles such as blues, gypsy jazz and bluegrass. He has released numerous albums and performs regularly at major harmonica events throughout Europe.

A journey to the very essence of the blues through iconic instruments such as the resonator guitar, washboard, harmonica and, of course, the human voice. This project was born from the collaboration between the duo Lust ’n’ Found —Elías Babad and Quico Hernández— and acclaimed harmonica player Joan Pau Cumellas. Virtuoso musicians deeply committed to roots music, whose combined talents create a truly remarkable musical partnership.

Drawing inspiration from the early blues of artists such as Bo Carter, Reverend Gary Davis and Blind Blake, while brilliantly reimagining more contemporary songs by Jefferson Airplane and Blue Öyster Cult, they deliver a bold and distinctive musical experience. A blues performance rich in colours, arrangements and stories, capable of transporting audiences across time and place like few others.

MASTERCLASS

Taking advantage of Joan Pau’s collaboration with two outstanding ambassadors of early 20th-century blues, this masterclass explores how the harmonica can play a fascinating role in this musical setting. From providing rhythmic support alongside the washboard’s percussion to, most notably, performing the sophisticated melodic lines of the resonator guitar to create playful and highly effective unison passages.
